Teachers strike

Statement from the Aotearoa Tech Union (ATU) on the May 29th 2019 teachers strike.

The Aotearoa Tech Union hereby expresses its full solidarity with NZEI Te Riu Roa and the Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) in their mass action on 29 May, 2019.

Our values insist that each worker deserves fair and reasonable working conditions and hours. Teachers throughout the country have voted and indicated that they lack the resources to perform their essential duties.

We join their call for government “to find a solution, now,” and we encourage our members, parents and the public to join teachers at public events around the country.

“It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education. Those who do not believe this have small imaginations.” - Nelson Mandela
